Donations

We need your help in honoring World War II veterans in the central Alabama area. Our country’s “Greatest Generation” veterans are dying at a rate of 1,200 a day. That’s why Honor Flight Birmingham was created. You may have read about this project in the Birmingham News or other area papers. After published stories and TV coverage explaining the effort, Honor Flight Birmingham has received calls, letters, and e-mails from WW II veterans or others on their behalf. More than 300 have completed applications and are currently on our waiting list. Time is not on our side. We are asking for your help in fulfilling what is likely one of their final wishes and our last opportunity to honor these heroes.

Central Alabama has a unique opportunity to express loving appreciation to the greatest generation through your support. Please show your patriotism and gratitude to our veterans by donating to this unique effort. The youngest WWII veterans are in their 80s, so we have no time to waste. Your donations are tax-deductible and serve the central Alabama area. They will be used to provide transportation, meals, T-shirts, disposable cameras, fuel, and other basic necessities. Ground transportation, meals, and snacks will be arranged to make each veteran – some of whom are in fragile health – as comfortable as possible. Honor Flight Birmingham is operated solely by dedicated volunteers and there is no paid staff. To insure that central Alabama donations go to sponsor local area veterans, Honor Flight Birmingham is now a program of the American Legion Department of Alabama. Your donation will go to sponsor the next veteran on our wait list, so don't delay. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, make checks payable to:
